Settings Testing Workflow

  1. Open Maker Suite and select Settings Testing.
  2. Use the fixed-size group cards and + Create Test Group tile (name, description, optional product link) to open a dedicated test workspace.
  3. Use the matrix editor: settings are columns and tests are rows, so every test keeps a full snapshot of all setting values.
  4. New groups start with a seeded core-quality matrix (temperature, flow, layer/line, speed, retraction, cooling) so editing can start immediately.
  5. Core quality columns are protected and cannot be removed, so every test run keeps quality-critical controls visible.
  6. Use Import G-code / 3MF to create an imported baseline test (material/slicer/profile hints are auto-read when available).
  7. Set context on the left panel: slicer, material, printer profile, nozzle, layer height, and speed.
  8. When a Printer Profile is selected, default nozzle/layer/speed values are applied automatically.
  9. Add one or more issues from Issue Browser (for example: stringing, first-layer issues, warping).
  10. Click Build Recommendations to generate/refresh setting columns, then edit cells inline.
  11. Use column tools to add/remove/reorder settings and compare two tests side-by-side with highlighted differences.
  12. The workspace opens matrix-first; setup panels are hidden by default and can be toggled with Show Setup Panels.
  13. Context and Issue Browser panels are collapsed by default and can be toggled open as needed.
  14. Matrix readability pass: larger editable cells, sticky header + sticky first test column, and compact column metadata labels for cleaner scanning.
  15. Core quality columns remain locked/protected in the matrix view and are no longer cluttered with per-column arrow/remove controls.
  16. Insights (next steps / next-test priority) are now optional and collapsed by default to keep focus on table editing.
  17. Use Next-test priority scoring to pick the highest-impact setting to adjust next.
  18. Save matrix outcomes with test-level status/result/notes, then use Back to Groups to manage all groups.

Diagnosis Workflow

  1. Open Maker Suite and select Diagnosis.
  2. Set slicer, printer, material, and key current print values.
  3. Select one or more visible failure types (or upload a failure photo with optional manual tags).
  4. Photo upload now runs capture-quality checks (resolution/brightness/contrast/sharpness) before scoring.
  5. In Fix / Photo views, optionally link diagnosis to a specific Settings Testing Group and then a specific Test so ranking uses that exact matrix snapshot.
  6. If vision provider env vars are configured, the server runs model inference and merges results with safe heuristics.
  7. Click Run Diagnosis to generate ranked likely causes.
  8. If photo confidence is low, fallback mode is applied automatically (setup + history weighting remains active).
  9. Hybrid v2 scoring now calibrates confidence and can mark recommendations as unknown when evidence is weak.
  10. Action Plan mode applies one change at a time, shows expected gain, and includes a rollback hint for safer iteration.
  11. Diagnosis latency now uses cache tiers (hot/warm/fallback), shown in the diagnosis header as Latency tier.
  12. Apply the top one or two exact setting changes first, then retest.
  13. Use Open Settings Testing to run controlled validation tests with tracked outcomes.

Vision Model Config

  • DIAGNOSIS_VISION_PROVIDER=openai|gemini|auto
  • DIAGNOSIS_VISION_AUTO_ORDER (default: openai, gemini; used when provider is auto)
  • DIAGNOSIS_VISION_MODEL (optional generic model override for the active primary provider)
  • DIAGNOSIS_VISION_OPENAI_API_KEY (or OPENAI_API_KEY)
  • DIAGNOSIS_VISION_OPENAI_API_BASE (default: https://api.openai.com/v1)
  • DIAGNOSIS_VISION_OPENAI_MODEL (default: gpt-4o-mini)
  • DIAGNOSIS_VISION_GEMINI_API_KEY (or GEMINI_API_KEY)
  • DIAGNOSIS_VISION_GEMINI_API_BASE (default: https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com/v1beta)
  • DIAGNOSIS_VISION_GEMINI_MODEL (default: gemini-2.5-flash)
  • DIAGNOSIS_VISION_API_KEY / DIAGNOSIS_VISION_API_BASE are optional generic fallbacks for single-provider mode only (not auto).
  • DIAGNOSIS_VISION_TIMEOUT_MS (default: 15000)

The app uses a hybrid flow by default: local on-device scoring + cloud model inference (when configured), with automatic low-confidence fallback.

When DIAGNOSIS_VISION_PROVIDER=auto, the backend tries providers in DIAGNOSIS_VISION_AUTO_ORDER and falls back automatically if the first provider fails.

Resource Limits

  • DIAGNOSIS_PHOTO_MAX_CONCURRENT (default: 2)
  • DIAGNOSIS_PHOTO_WINDOW_MS (default: 60000)
  • DIAGNOSIS_PHOTO_MIN_INTERVAL_MS (default: 1200)
  • DIAGNOSIS_PHOTO_MAX_PER_WINDOW_USER (default: 24)
  • DIAGNOSIS_PHOTO_MAX_PER_WINDOW_ANON (default: 10)
  • DIAGNOSIS_PHOTO_IMAGE_MAX_CHARS (default: 2000000)
  • DIAGNOSIS_PHOTO_FILE_MAX_BYTES (default: 12582912 / 12MB)
  • DIAGNOSIS_PHOTO_BYPASS_USER_IDS (comma list; owner bypass for cooldown/window quota while still keeping concurrency + file/payload caps)

Slicer-Specific Mapping

Recommendations adapt to the selected slicer and include:

  • exact setting label name in the slicer
  • location/path hint for where to find it
  • recommended value/range and rationale
  • next-step suggestion when a test fails

Data Files

The troubleshooting engine is JSON-backed and modular:

  • App/features/maker-suite/settings-testing/data/issues.json
  • App/features/maker-suite/settings-testing/data/slicerMappings.json
  • App/features/maker-suite/settings-testing/data/troubleshootingRules.json
  • App/features/maker-suite/settings-testing/data/materialProfiles.json
  • App/features/maker-suite/settings-testing/data/printerProfiles.json

Access Rules

  • The feature toggle controls local visibility.
  • Operations role permissions can restrict section access.
